Classic Beef Tacos

Ingredients

For the Meat

  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne optional
  • 1/2 cup water

For Serving

  • 8 small corn tortillas warmed
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 diced tomato
  • Sour cream
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Lime wedges

Directions

  1. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up as it cooks.
  2. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add all spices and stir to coat the meat.
  4. Add water and simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
  5. Warm tortillas in a dry skillet or directly over a gas flame.
  6. Serve meat in tortillas with your choice of toppings.

Notes

  • Double-stack soft tortillas so they don't break.
  • Make it a taco bar and let everyone build their own.
  • Leftovers are great for taco salads the next day.
